Michelle Wei tees off at Canadian Women’s Open 2011 with skeptics like Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam commenting about how Wei’s decision to attend Stanford hurt her progress and women’s golf.

The 2011 Canadian Women’s Open with Michelle Wie defending champion begins Thursday and the LPGA golfer has sounded off about her decision to return to college saying it “returned her life to normal and rekindled her love for the game.”

Michelle Wie still believes winning regularly on the LPGA women’s tour is a realistic goal and the 21-year-old Stanford University student is working hard with coach David Leadbetter.

“I know I need to be better and to work harder at my game. I want to be at a higher level and that obviously requires a lot of work.”

Besides the Canadian Women’s Open title, Michelle Wie has won just one other stroke play tournament in her career and that was two years ago in Mexico. She is 20th on the earnings list this year and her best performance was a runner-up finish in February in Thailand. She has missed just two of 13 cuts this season.

In the 2010 Canadian Women’s Open, Wie shot a final round 70 to take a three shot victory over Shin Ji-Yai of South Korea, Suzann Pettersen and Kristy McPherson. This week in Montreal Wei will once again be up against Pettersen, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, and Canadian veterans Lorie Kane and Alena Sharp.

Keegan Bradley is Pat Bradley’ nephew, the LPGA Hall of Famer,whom renowned sports psychologist Bob Rotella once called the toughest player he ever saw.

In addition to Dad’s coaching, Keegan Bradley grew up going to Aunt Pat’s LPGA tournaments “totally idolizing her and wanting to be like her out there,” he said, with the Wanamaker Trophy perched nearby.

Keegan recalled going to aunt Pat Bradley’s golf events;”I remember as a kid going out to her tournaments and literally staring her in the face, and I’m her nephew, but she was so into it, she wouldn’t even recognize me. And I thought that was cool.”

Keegan’s dad, Mark, is currently the head pro at Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club in Wyoming and has backed the newly crowned PGA champion, through the ups and downs. According to Keegan’s mom “He used to say all the time, ‘He’s the real deal.’

No doubt Keegan’s family support and incredible genes contributed to an exciting golfer winning a major in his first try.

Yesterday, Rory McIlroy caught up with girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki after a dismal performance at the 2011 US PGA Championship, flying up to Cincinnati to watch her in the Western & Southern Open.

Word is, Rory McIlroy will be following his new girlfriend on the tennis circuit when she moves to New Haven to play later this month. Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki began dating just after his 2011 win at the US Open at Congressional in Washington D.C. and his breakup with long time girlfriend Holly Sweeney.

Rory McIlroy isn’t making any commitment for more 2011 US golf in the near future. McIlroy confirmed that the combination of his wrist injury and an obligation to season finale ‘Race to Dubai’ in Europe will mean he is unlikely to play again in the United States until next February.

Before he’s off to Dubai, McIlroy revealed his 2011 summer schedule for the next few weeks will coincide with that of new girlfriend, Wozniacki.

“I’m actually going to go to Cincinnati for a few days. I hear it’s nice there this time of year,” McIlroy revealed with a smile. “I’m going to Cincinnati for a few days, home for the weekend, and then to New York.”
